About

Hi. This space is not necessarily about anything in particular.  I’m very interested in photography and light, I like food, eating and cooking it.  I love politics and events that seemingly change the world we live in, although the older I become, the more willing I am to discount whatever might appear to be real. I’m getting old and my generation is being discounted across the board.  We’re losing our jobs, pensions, retirements, the whole package before our eyes.

It’s been so gratifying to see anyone angry enough to muster some resistance to what’s happening financially.  Will this continue?  Who knows?  The discrepancies between the haves and the have nots is growing exponentially.  I’m writing this just after the Christmas holidays 2011.  This season, the Lexus ads featured people so acquainted with their theme music that all one had to do was to play any variation of it, and instantly everyone just knew there would be a new Lexus outside waiting for them.  This notion is so removed from my reality, and yet I live in a city where there is a Lexus everywhere I turn.  It is the most driven car in the poorest parts of town.  I hope I’m not offending anyone by saying this.  I’d like to have a Lexus, but Christmas has come and gone, and it looks like I won’t be getting a car this year, and certainly NOT a Lexus, no matter how many ways I try to work the theme song into my daily life.

I am a graphic/web designer, a creator of image and images. Currently I function as an archivist preparing historical photographs to be published online, which I really love doing.

I live in Baltimore, MD, a great city. I have an old house, built in 1926, (which will undoubtedly come up on these pages) a partner, two black labs & four cats. Yikes!

Just a note. All my links are there because I can’t get rid of them. I can’t make the menu function the way I want it to & I just don’t have energy to keep tackling this. I am interested in all of these things and I will endeavor to take a stab at food and whatnot.

Cheers.

  1. Hi Flatland57!

Well, February has got off to a great start – the wonderful Kofegeek nominated me to receive the Liebster Blog Award. And now I want to nominate you for it too.

The Liebster Award is given to up-and-coming bloggers who currently have fewer than 200 followers (apologies if your blog has loads more followers – I don’t know how to check). The recipient is supposed to nominate five other bloggers in return. Liebster in Germany means ‘dearest’ or ‘beloved’ – so a lovely warm thing to pass on in the cold winter months.

Here’s a link explaining a little more about it: http://thefutureispapiermache.wordpress.com/liebster-blog/

Don’t feel under any obligation to take part if you don’t want to.

  2. I stopped by your blog because you left a comment on ours. Lovely photos. Your piece on the hawk in your backyard made me laugh. It detailed exactly the sort of thing I’d do–then take hell from my wife for falling out of the tree.

Re the politics… sigh… it does seem to be getting worse. I guess “values” trumps economic interest in this country–how else to explain why so many people are willing to vote against their own economic interests again and again and… Ken

    1. Ken, thanks for dropping by. I know I heard a hawk again this morning. Usually you hear the other birds first. I’m glad no limbs of any kind were broken for this story. As far as politics, while I tend to get a bit obsessed about it, I hope always that I’m making the right choices for me and my family. If these folks who don’t spend some time listening to differing opinions would actually listen to what the media says, they’d be shocked. They don’t think anyone is listening, except obsessed, pre-decided voters who can’t be swayed. And the cycle continues.
